Rationale for the model of membership
- To have the virus is a requirement for membership
- Membership facilitates individual growth – open to the whole person – person not seen as problem or “mere” service user
- Membership seeks to enrol those willing to adhere to the membership rights and responsibilities
- Members are free to use the centre as needs require in line with the Rights and Responsibilities
- Membership offers a living model – i.e. by becoming a member I change the process
- It facilitates the need for safety and confidentiality
- It is supportative of each member
- Membership is about partnership and sharing
- It is inclusive
- It is a community model – a place where time is spent together
- It promotes loyalty, companionship and a willingness to partake of change
- It offers more than a drop in centre
